Senior Lead – Digital Product
Location: Hybrid, based at our VHQ Crawley
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Permanent

The Senior Digital Product Owner plays a vital role in the creation, development and performance of the Virgin Atlantic portfolio of digital products and journeys. As the senior member of a multi-disciplined digital product team, they contribute at every stage of the product lifecycle, developing end to end customer journeys by connecting our strategy with our portfolio of digital products to drive forward enhancements and new product development across all product types, touchpoints and channels.
The role holder will be a leading part of a small, high performing team, focusing effort on the products and experiences that will have the biggest impact on revenue, engagement, and NPS. They will need to have a forensic understanding of customer and data insight, the ability to shape, define and deliver a product portfolio based on our strategy and vision, as well as the ability to shape and contribute towards the team’s strategic thinking. The ability to influence stakeholders will be critical given the need for the role to connect strategy and delivery in a matrix structure.
The Senior Digital Product Owner will operate with autonomy and initiative to build and improve products and journeys that have demonstrable positive impact on our customers. They will work collaboratively with design and delivery management teams to jointly share learning, push standards and seek innovation, ensuring that the product roadmap is flawlessly implemented, and we delight our customers through every digital touchpoint.
As Senior Digital Product Owner, you will:
- Convert insight and strategy into deliverables and backlog items - The ability to work with the business and the rest of the team to turn strategic thinking and insight into delivery-ready items as Epics, Features and ultimately User Stories that can be understood by developers.
- Develop and deliver our Digital Product Strategy - Mapping between our corporate, directorate, and stakeholder strategies and our digital product strategy to give a clear roadmap for how our digital product and experience will evolve. Executing against this roadmap.
- User Experience and Customer Research - The ability to work with researchers to have a deep understanding of customer drivers and behaviour to ensure that product development will drive the outcomes targeted and needed. Understanding of competitor landscape to help inform research etc.
- Test, Measure, Learn with Key Performance Indicators - You’ll need to ensure performance is being tracked through multiple lenses. Be able to monitor performance against a set of KPIs and take corrective action should the product not be performing.
- Stakeholder management in a resource constrained environment - Ability to form strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, processing a variety of inputs and ideas, suggesting a path through, and getting buy-in through data, evidence, diplomacy, and in time a track record of value delivery.
- Develop and embed new processes - Support the wider product and delivery teams in developing better processes and establishing digital development across Virgin Atlantic.
Do you have proven digital/technology experience in Digital Product functions? Are you experienced leading and working in cross-functional teams and matrix working to build, shape, optimise and deliver digital products? Then this could be the role for you!
Alongside the above, we're looking for the following:
- Experienced in Agile delivery methods and using industry-standard tools, confident in running ceremonies
- Create roadmaps and prioritise backlogs thoughtfully so that we operate with the highest leverage and impact, executing against our strategy of becoming the most loved travel company
- Experience using technologies such as Azure DevOps / Jira, Adobe Analytics, Adobe Target, Content Square, Foresee (or other similar tools and platforms
- Excellent stakeholder management and the ability to easily form effective cross-team working relationships
- Excellent communication skills, including experience of influencing and persuading upwards, especially with senior stakeholders and our Leadership Team
- Ability to translate technical detail in to simple compelling narratives that can be converted in to tangible actions to address customer pain points or inform the strategy
- Good commercial sense, with an ability to understand and challenge business, design and user needs, ensuring that product solutions have a measurable benefit to the business
- Assisting and supporting the Digital Product Manager by deputising at working groups, supporting L&D, and coaching junior members of the team
