At Virgin Atlantic, we believe everyone can take on the world — and our Finance team plays a vital role in making that happen. We’re looking for a detail-driven and commercially aware Finance Analyst – Financial Accounting to join our Financial Accounting team and help deliver accurate, timely and IFRS-compliant financial reporting across the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified accountant looking to develop within a fast-paced, high-performing finance environment while gaining exposure to operational and overhead accounting within a global airline business.
You’ll be responsible for supporting the monthly close process and ensuring the integrity of financial accounting across operating and overhead costs. Working closely with FP&A, Accounts Payable and wider finance teams, you’ll help ensure accurate reporting, robust balance sheet control and continuous process improvement.
• Managing month-end accounting activities including (but not limited to);-accruals, prepayments, payroll and provisions
• Posting and reviewing journals within Oracle Financials
• Performing timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations
• Monitoring and analysing accruals to minimise volatility and improve forecasting accuracy
• Partnering with FP&A teams to understand operational initiatives and cost expectations
• Supporting the reconciliation of invoices to accruals alongside Accounts Payable
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls and reporting efficiency
• Assisting with audit preparation and wider financial accounting projects
• You’ll play a key role in delivering an accurate and efficient monthly close process, ensuring accounting transactions are transferred correctly into Oracle Fusion from underlying systems and that all DOCs are fully captured across all flights and operational movements.
• You’ll be responsible for preparing and posting a wide range of journals, which could include accruals, prepayments, payroll, provisions, statistical journals, commissions and unbilled revenue.
• Alongside month-end activities, you’ll take ownership of balance sheet reconciliations within your remit, ensuring all schedules are completed accurately and on time to support statutory, regulatory, shareholder and management reporting requirements. You’ll proactively identify under or over accruals, partner closely with FP&A teams to manage forecast impacts, and oversee the crystallisation process for cost accruals to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• You’ll also contribute to the continuous improvement of our finance processes and systems, supporting the integrity of mapping tables and challenging system outputs to ensure accounting accuracy and operational consistency.
• Building strong relationships across Finance will be key. You’ll work closely with FP&A and Accounts Payable teams to support efficient working practices, resolve queries on actual results postings and ensure invoices can be reconciled effectively against accruals.
• In addition, you’ll support audit preparation, contribute to finance projects and help identify opportunities to strengthen financial controls, processes and reporting integrity.
• Part-qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant
• Strong Excel and analytical skills
• Experience working within a finance or financial accounting environment
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving capability
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to challenge constructively
• Experience with Oracle Financials or similar ERP systems would be advantageous
• A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
